INGENIOUS WORKING PRINCIPLE
Floating ergonomic saddle core
When pedaling, your weight is continuously shifted from one sit bone to the other – with the highest stress on the pedal-up side, where your body weight is focused and high pressure occurs. This localized pressure is noticeably reduced by the Ergon Core: Through the suspended Core design and the high-end material properties the bike saddle has the ability to adapt to every pelvic motion when pedaling – enormously enhancing comfort.
ENERGY-SAVING RAMP
Ideally supported in steeper terrain
The SM E-Mountain Core Prime Women significantly improves your seated position while climbing. The steeply rising ramp at the rear gives you a stable, effort-saving hold when climbing uphill. We have also designed the saddle nose to be particularly wide and comfortable, as the seat position often shifts forward in extremely steep sections.
Material-Innovative Infinergy®
Cycling on clouds
BASF’s innovative Infinergy® material sets new standards for suspension and damping on bicycles. The elastic saddle core supports pelvic movements when pedaling, absorbs road shocks and is easy on the back. When the pedaling pressure decreases, the Ergon Core, consisting of thousands of foam particles, immediately rebounds back to its original shape. Leading manufacturers of running shoes also use this E-TPU foam worldwide with great success.
THE ADVANTAGES OF THE DOUBLE SHELL
Ergon TwinShell vs. the standard saddle
The revolutionary Ergon double-shell technology takes comfort to a whole new level. With the conventional saddle there is only one seat shell on the frame. This standard shell supports all of the rider’s weight and must therefore be very stiff. The SM E-Mountain Core Prime Women utilizes two shells. The lower shell, supporting the rider’s weight is very stiff and the upper shell, which is a base of the padding material is very flexible. In between is the floating ergonomic core made of Infinergy®. This design isolates road shock, dampens vibrations, supports pelvic movements while pedaling and noticeably takes pressure off the sit bones.
THE TWIN SHELL AND INNER CORE DAMPER
Support that follows your pedal stroke
The view from below on the SM E-Mountain Core Prime Women shows how the high-performance elastomer damper decouples the two saddle shells from each other. This sandwich construction with its elastic core allows the saddle to follow the natural movements of the pedal stroke. This provides support in all directions from the vibrations of the riding surface to the rider’s pedal stroke.
ORTHOPEDIC FOAM
Comfortable and durable
The padding is made of orthopedic comfort foam. The foam is supportive, soft, but does not collapse. In addition to the foam, specific gel pad inlays offer even more comfort under the sitting area. With this saddle, it is not absolutely necessary to wear cycling shorts. The saddle is covered with robust microfiber to prevent abrasions and maintain the durability of the saddle.
Ergon is the top choice for riders who value health and comfort on the bike: Over the course of intensive testing, the Institut für Gesundheit und Ergonomie (IGR) has awarded the “Ergonomic Product” seal of approval for Ergon saddles, grips and the Fitting Box.
Minimizing Saddle Discomfort
When cycling, most of your body weight rests on the small saddle surface. If the weight is not shifted evenly to the bony structures, unnecessary pressures are then distributed to sensitive soft tissue areas. A relief channel helps, but is not the only important factor.
For an ergonomic distribution of pressure, the correlations between the sit bone distance and sitting angle must be taken into account. An ergonomic bicycle saddle should have sufficient contact surface, but still allow the thighs to move freely. Furthermore, cycling is not static. Uphill, the rider intuitively slides towards the saddle nose to shift the body’s center of gravity forwards. The opposite occurs when cycling downhill.
Ergon takes all these factors into account when developing all of their saddles. There are specific models for specific disciplines, and both recreational and professional riders. Two widths are available in every saddle model to better adapt to all rider’s comfort needs.
Completely new
The Ergon developers have taken a completely new approach to the topic of women’s mountain bike saddles. After intensive research with X-ray and CT analysis, they have created a new generation of saddles. Countless prototypes have been tested by both professionals and recreational riders. This feedback, in combination with scientific data developed a new generation of comfort for women.
Pelvic Flexibility
When women are on the MTB, they tend to rock more forward than in men due to an increase flexibility in the pelvis and hips. This often causes considerable pressure in the genital area. The SM E-Mountain Core Prime Women is designed in a way to support a woman’s wider and more rocked forward bony structures while alleviating the sensitive soft tissue with a tapered cut out.
The deep pubic symphysis
Anatomically, the pubic symphysis (anterior cartilage connection between the two halves of the pelvis) is about a quarter lower in women than in men. In addition, the angle of the pubic bones to each other is larger. We have also taken this into account in the SM E-Mountain Core Prime Women in order to prevent discomfort in the sensitive areas.
Tested Back-Friendly
Back pain is the most commonly occurring orthopedic condition, especially when cycling. When you have back pain on the bike, your ride enjoying quickly dissipates. In extensive tests led by medical professionals, the Core saddle principle has been officially proven to reduce back pain with the seal of approval from „Aktion Gesunder Rücken“ (campaign for a healthy back).
The Right Size
The shape and size of the saddle must match the sit bone width of the rider to maximize comfort and enjoyment.
The pelvis is V-shaped and the saddle must offer the sit bones a large contact surface while being able to meet the demands of different sitting positions. The more forward and aggressive the rider sits, the further forward the sit bones contact the saddle.
Two saddle sizes are offered to match the rider’s unique sit bone width.
